Unrivalled performance for hi-res face / object geometry and texture 3D scanning

The ESPER LightCage is a geodesic frame, with integrated power distribution that can hold 156 MultiFlash lights. The LightCage can be programmed to create the perfect realistic lighting conditions for capturing images suitable for processing into high resolution 3D meshes.

Capture 360 degrees instantaneously

The photogrammetry rig is capable of mounting up to 150 cameras around the subject. When combined with rapidly cycled lighting sequences this allows for the instantaneous capturing of image and lighting data from every conceivable angle.

Unparalleled lighting control

The ESPER MultiFlash is one of the most advanced flashes ever designed. Flash duration and intensity can be controlled independently and offset accurately as well as the synchronisation with your capture system.

Microsecond synchronisation

The lighting states can be tightly synchronised with still and video camera systems, allowing for reliable and accurate capture of a subjects performance. Certainty, repeatability, fidelity of synchronisation to the microsecond.

Pipeline-ready images

LightCage creates balanced and accurate lighting for photometric measurements and photoreal CG character capture. The captured images require minimal clean-up and are pipeline-ready for processing.

LightCage controller software

The LightCage controller software has been designed around the needs of the artist. No complex programming is required. No laborious command-line input or time draining second guessing. ESPER’s GUI LightCage Controller software has been designed to maximise usability, certainty and efficiency.

Using LightCage it is possible to emulate the pioneering techniques developed by Paul Debevec and the University of Southern California Institute for Creative Technologies for generating diffuse maps, normal maps, specular maps and sub-surface scattering maps. It is worth noting that some techniques may require licensing which can be facilitated through ESPER.


Completely controllable multi-directional lighting perfectly synced with stills or video cameras

Lighting states can be programmed and accurately synced with the image capture system to get the data sets for detailed 3D model and texture generation as well as photometric measurements.


Flicker-Free Dimming at high frame rates

The LightCage’s MultiFlash lights have been designed to provide flicker free operation throughout their entire dimming range. Tested here at frame rates up to 300fps.

Camera Compatibility
